It had been quite few months I haven’t update my blog. I quit my previous job in Malaysia and now I am in Singapore.

I joined a local Singapore company, G Element and participate in the NAVTEQ LBS Challenge.

Today, I went to CommunicAsia 2008 at Singapore Expo to attend the NAVTEQ LBS Challenge Award Ceremony. My company participated and submitted a mobile solution, Earth@SG Mobile, in this challenge. I was lucky to get involved in the development just after I joined the company. Our solution is provide mobile user the local search proximity. User can query any points of interest (POIs) that near to their location using GPS.

We are manage to be one of the finalist in APAC region. But sadly we didn’t win any prices at the end. Joiku Soft walked away with the grand price of $275,000 USD. They provide an interesting software client called JoikuSpot which will turn your mobile into wireless hotspot.

Anyway, we still get us a “trophy” and it is a interesting experience to me.

Our Award

After the ceremony, I walked around the exhibition halls. Yeah, it is a huge exhibition with several halls together. There are a lot of exhibitors take part in this event. We got Singtel, Sony, Samsung, LG, Yahoo!, NTT docomo and more. TM telcom and Green Packet from Malaysia also joined the crowd. You can expecting some latest mobile phones and gadgets in exhibition. More photos at below.

I manage to get a hand on experience for the Garmin’s nüvifone as well. It is a fully touch handset with GPS functionality build-in which is the expertise of Garmin since they are one of leading GPS navigator manufacturer.

I am quite impressed with this device actually. Nice and neat interface it got. Kinda similar to iPhone where you can scroll the menu with your finger. I upload a demostration of the handset.

Lastly, I make my way to the another booth of my company. We have another project, Germanium. It provides a plugin which enable real time 3D in building rendering in the web browser.

Too bad, I was not able to run through every single corner of this exhibition with the limited time I had. And very sorry folks, sorry for the disappointment that no hot chicks’ photos have been taken. Or should I say I forgot due to the reason I was over excited by the gadgets?  Again, this is an exciting exhibition to attend if you interested in communication technology, mobile gadgets, and pretties.
